Breaking Barriers : Inclusivity in Education - English Version

Written by Athia

For most children, going to school is something to look forward to. A place to make friends, to explore new things, and to create a journey of learning. However, not every child enjoys the same experience and opportunities. This is a problem that many students are facing now, the feeling of not being able to fit in. We live in a world of diversity, and it’s important for us to feel the need for increasing inclusivity in the education world.

Inclusivity means to ensure that there is an equal access of opportunities for all students regardless of their background and abilities. Inclusivity is about creating a space where everyone feels equally valued and respected. Every student deserves to feel that they belong and that they matter. So why is inclusivity so important in schools? And what can we do to create an inclusive space for everyone.

We want everyone to feel appreciated and accepted throughout their life. It’s important to shape an inclusive and understanding attitude for children. The more welcoming schools are to students with differences, the higher level of respect the students have for others around them. Students will learn that being different doesn’t make them/others any less and that diversity should be used to build bridges, not barriers.

When in most cases, diversity causes collisions between students, our duty is to increase the sense of belonging between teachers and students. That way, we can reduce the amount of discrimination, teasing, and bullying cases in schools.

Although many people have understood the importance of inclusivity, there are still many obstacles and barriers to creating a fully inclusive environment at schools. It’s essential for us to acknowledge and to address these challenges in order to find effective solutions.

  • Lack of awareness :Many people haven’t understood the basic principles of inclusivity and its benefits. This causes a significant barrier to inclusivity.

  • Negative attitude of society :

The conservative mentality of our society is sometimes the barrier to inclusivity. Many people  think that educating children with “differences” is useless and that they’re not able to contribute to society.

There are many things that we can do to build an inclusive environment in our classrooms, such as :

  • Listen and be open to everyone’s feedback as well as giving honest feedback

  • Communicate inclusively by using inclusive language

  • Have a non-discrimination policy

  • Remind everyone that having differences is ok!

Inclusivity is more than just an ideal, it’s a vision for a brighter future for everyone. As we continue to create an inclusive environment, we realise that our goal is still pending. It requires efforts from teachers, parents, students, and society. Let’s all move forward to voice inclusivity. Together, we can build a more harmonious future for generations to come.
